Project Background

Phoenix Design Week and the Method + Madness conference has played a critical role in the life of Strong Design, so we really wanted to find a way to give back this year to show appreciation for everything we’ve gained from the event over the past several years. When asked to take up the role of Design Chair this year, we jumped at the chance and embarked on one of the most challenging and rewarding projects we've ever been a part of.

Phoenix Design Week came to us with a set of existing elements, including a logo, color palette and typeface. We worked with them to mine their vision and carry that through a full set of marketing collateral for the event design.

The design elements for the event were inspired by Native American symbols so common in the Southwest, and the overall design execution was done in a way that honored and showcased the most basic principles of design, like typography, white space and finishing.

The program was the piece de resistance of the system, and it featured a black paper cover with the symbol pattern blind embossed. It was finished off with bright green exposed side-sewn stitching.
